TMR Safe Following Distances

For more detailed information on the Queensland Road Rules visit http://www.qld.gov.au/transport/safety/rules/ Safe following distances vary according to traffic speed, weather conditions and the type of vehicle you're driving. In good conditions, you should allow 2 seconds between your car and the vehicle in front of you. If you are towing a trailer or caravan, you'll need to allow 2 seconds, plus an extra second for every 3 metres of trailer. If you are driving a heavy vehicle or if conditions are poor, allow at least 4 seconds following distance. Simple misunderstandings of road rules can cause a lot of grief - from near misses and minor crashes to serious injury or worse. Road rules are developed for your safety so make sure you know and follow them at all times. This video relates to the road rules in Queensland; road rules in other states may differ.
